Furry Friends Are Good For You

By Tara in Health Services

If you had an extra 15 minutes in your day, what would you do with it?  Sleep?  Read? Call your mom?
Perhaps you’d spend those extra minutes playing with your best furry friend!

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, pets can decrease your:
  • blood pressure
  • cholesterol levels
  • triglyceride levels
  • feelings of loneliness
. . .and pets can increase your:
  • opportunities for exercise and outdoor activities
  • opportunities for socialization
Playing with a pet (or doing any other enjoyable activity) can elevate levels of dopamine and serotonin, which can have a calming effect on our mood.

Go ahead. Just try to stay mad with these puppy-dog eyes looking back at you:

So take a lesson from Bam:  spend 15 minutes today doing what you love most!
